These are all 2-D representations of plants. However, what are even cooler are 3-D representations of the sequence in plants such as: plants that grow leaves which spiral around one main stem.
We have 8 leaves and 5 revolutions; the plant’s ratio of revolution to leaves is 5:8, which makes the plant phylotaxis
1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13
This is where the cool part comes in, almost all plant ratios of revolutions to leaves are of consecutive or alternative terms of the Fibonacci Sequence.
Now lets examine a pineapple, its scales are also patterned into 3 distinct spirals: 5, 8, and 13
Not surprising huh? Fibonacci’s everywhere!
